LTPs 3 years’ water, sanitation, and hygiene project in Alebtong district finally came to an end. The long journey that was meant to shorten the distance travelled by women, men, and children from Abako and Amugu Sub Counties, Alebtong District in search of clean water for both domestic use and for their animals.

Improving access to clean and safe water

LTP in partnership with Alebtong District has for the last 3 years been actively involved in drilling 30 boreholes in Alebtong district (Abako and Amugu Sub County) under the Rural Water and Sanitation Sustainability project whose main goal was sustainable water supply and improved community health. This dream came to an end where over 14,000 people are able to access clean and safe water for drinking, and this is at a reduced walking distance.

After three years of constant implementation of both the hard ware and software activities, on 4th May 2023, LTP officially handed over all the 30 boreholes to the district leadership and communities/water users in a function that brought together the technical and political leaders as well as the community members. In a beautiful song by the female beneficiaries, the women were heard telling of the immense load that has been taken off their shoulders by drilling of a borehole in Ayaikuc village.

Operation and maintenance

Strongly standing out was the issue of Operation and Maintenance and sustainability as it is the only way to continuously access clean and safe water for the generation to come. LTP hopes to do this for more unserved people as they derive joy and fulfilment in bringing basic services closer to people.
